How to Import vCard Contacts on iPhone: A Tutorial

Many people, for work-related reasons, utilize online tools to convert Excel spreadsheets into vCard files (VCF format files) and then import them into their iPhones.

However, some individuals encounter issues during the import process, finding that certain files cannot be imported into their iPhones. Additionally, some users may not be familiar with the operations of an iPhone. In this article, we will combine the official manual from Apple to teach you how to import vCard contacts via iPhone.

What is a vCard File?

vCard is now the file for mobile phone address books. It is a virtual (electronic) business card containing personal or corporate contact information. Such cards can include the contact's name, phone number, email address, street address, birthday, and photo. When exporting contacts from the "Address Book" function, the system creates a vCard file (.vcf) for sharing with others.

If the vCard file contains multiple people's contact information, each contact will be listed as an independent entry.

On "Contacts" at iCloud.com, click the "Add" button on the right side, then select "Import Contacts."

Choose the vCard to import. The contacts from the imported vCard will be added to the "All Contacts" list. You can drag and drop contacts to add them to any other list.

How to Export vCard on iPhone

On "Contacts" at iCloud.com, select the desired contacts from the contact list. If you want to export multiple contacts, hold down the Command key (on a Mac) or the Ctrl key (on a Windows computer) and click on each contact you want to export.

Click the "Share" button on the right side and select "Export vCard." If you select multiple contacts, "Contacts" will export a vCard containing all the contacts.

Friendly Reminder: You can export all contacts as a single vCard and use it as a backup. Click the "Actions" button in the sidebar, select "Select All Contacts," and follow the above instructions to export the vCard.

In addition, iPhone also supports printing "Select All Contacts."

iPhone Unable to Import vCard Contacts

Some iPhone users have reported that when trying to import vCard contacts, the system prompts that it is unable to import, and they are unsure of the reason.

This may be due to the version of the VCF file. Currently, iCloud only supports imports of version 3.0 and above, so some versions may not be recognized or compatible during the import process, requiring modification of the file's information. The simplest solution is to manually modify the version number to 3.0 using Notepad to address this issue, although encoding errors may still occur.

In summary, when converting Excel spreadsheets into vCard files, it's advisable to choose professional and reliable application tools for added security.
